Artist at Work. To get through most of this scroll, a few cups
of coffee were involved, and occasionally, a few bottles of Sam Adams or
Smirnoff. :P While the work area was not always as seen here, spending
whole weekends in this position left me with a sore back, and fuzzy vision.
The tools involved in this stage of carving the runes are shown below -
an Xacto carving blade, an Xacto chisel blade, and the palm tool with a
longer chisel blade. While this helped speed up the process - and I am
sure is not how it was done at the time - line 5 took 3 1/2 hrs. Out of
5 "short" lines and the really long 6th line.
